Bras – A Woman’s One True Friend

Surely you remember your younger days – those times you would watch the elder female members of your family and feel a sense of envy and longing at the way they seemed to have it all. The sense of freedom they enjoyed. The way your mother handled family affairs and managed to make everything right. The way you elder sister or aunt would hang out with friends and talk about “adult stuff”. Back then you would just be the little sister, the innocent child, or the clueless daughter. Time goes by and you slowly find yourself on the threshold of adulthood. In school you transition from using a pencil in class to using a pen. In life, you now come face-to-face with the very “grown up” clothing item that is a bras & slips. The first time you wear a bra, you feel a sense of maturity and a certain sense of coolness – like you have finally been accepted as one of the women in your home.

Bras indicate that you are now ready for the next phase of your life. Besides this, the main reason women wear bras is because of the super functional purpose they fulfill. There are many styles of bras in today’s market and each style has been designed to best complement a certain neckline or a certain activity. Some of the most common styles of bras include:

  • Training – Training bras are every little girl’s introduction to the world of bras. Designed for young girls, these are basic and do not offer as much support as the other styles.

  • Padded – These, as the name suggests, come with padding inside the cup linings, thereby giving the illusion of fuller breasts. These can be real life-savers for women who need a little help in flaunting their assets while wearing certain styles of shirts and dresses.

  • Push-up – Padded bras give the illusion of fuller breasts but do not necessarily lift them. Push-up bras & slips on the other hand have been designed to lift a woman’s breasts and place them closer together so the cleavage is enhanced.

  • Underwire – These have a wire made of metal or plastic, under each cup to offer rigid support to your bust. These may or may not have a padding.

  • U-plunge – These have a deep line and are especially perfect to be worn under blouses and dresses with a plunging neckline.

  • T-shirt – These often have padded cups to conceal nipples and are designed to allow you to wear tight t-shirts without the shape of your bra showing.

  • Strapless – Perfect for strapless dresses and halterneck tops, these do not feature shoulder straps.

  • Sport – These are generally made of stretchable materials and are especially designed to offer a firm support to your breasts while you indulge in vigorous workouts and exercises.

  • Full-cup – These come with underwires and cover most of your breasts, and are especially perfect for women with heavier breasts.

  • Demi-cup – These cover only half the breasts and are also the perfect choice of underwear for shirts with plunging necklines.

  • Bandeau – These are a simple band of cloth worn across the breast. They do not really offer enough support or shape and are best worn by women with smaller breasts.

  • Minimizer – These have been designed to “play down” your assets by a cup size or two.

  • Convertible – These come with detachable straps that can be arranged and worn as one wishes.
